Frederick Smalls from Massachusetts: Get a Life

Oh. The humanity.

It's all "grief and aggravation" for people like Smalls who tried to buy the new iPhone today.

Grief? Over a mobile phone?

Un-fucking-believable.

I usually agree with you when you shoot from the hip, but this time I think you missed the mark.

""It's such grief and aggravation," said Frederick Smalls, an insurance broker in Whitman, Mass., after spending two hours on the phone with Apple and AT&T Inc., trying to get his new iPhone to work."

Granted, the hype around the iPhone is ridiculous. If I'm going to wait in line for something for more than half an hour, there better be a complimentary sex act involved. Still, it doesn't seem outrageous that an item bought as part of a major release from a company as big and popular as Apple should work out of the box.

Mr. Smalls isn't bemoaning the wait to purchase the phone, but the hoops he had to jump through to actually use it. I'm sure you have enough experience being on hold or wrangling with "customer support" at a major corporation to know that aggravation isn't an outlier in the realm of possible emotions.

Although I'll agree that "grief" is a poor choice.

If you read my article from today, it is clear that you and I are looking at this from different perspectives. But yeah, "grief and aggravation" is a wee bit hyperbolic.

The only reason I want one, is so I can see takeareport.com during the day. It's just good ole American journalism!

ps...the pricks I work for block us from EVERYTHING!

Hey LBB - Thanks for being here. I understand frustration over technology - who hasn't screamed their lungs out at some remote tech support person at one point or another? Well, maybe just me, but I do understand. I just thought the whole "grief" thing was a bit dramatic, especially these sad days here in the U.S. Thanks for the comments, guys.

If you want to buy the beta version of things then you better expect the beta performance of things...
