New spirit

“So let us summon a new spirit of patriotism, of responsibility, where each of us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only ourselves but each other. ”

- Barack Obama
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I didn't vote for Obama, but I will pray for him."
I must've heard that 10 times during my morning commute.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You can't find a newspaper in the Loop this morning.

I grabbed the last Sun-Times off the rack at the Walgreens on the corner of Wacker and Jackson.

In the words of my favorite Scottish-American:

"It's a GREAT day for America!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am listening to: The office buzzing about Obama
I am reading: The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls
And I am: Feeling like America grew up last night
Now the hard part begins. That little Georgie Bush boy broke all the toys and demolished the country... cleaning it up will not be easy.
And it does no good to ask why WE are the ones who have to clean it up... so let's just get busy and pitch in to help this new kid Barack clean it up. Then we can start building a better future.
Ladies and Gentlemen... our long national inightmare is over...
Now the hard part begins.
Wha-fucking-hoooooooooooooo!!! Such a relief! It feels wonderful.
And I LOVED the cover of the Sun-Times too - makes me think of "Call me Mr. Tibbs"!
The nice, the really nice part?
Everyone (not everyone, but the vast majority of us) are OK with this.
A little less than half of us aren't too happy. The rest, a great day!
Now we all buckle down to what we were doing and hope for the best.
An historic day, marked by muted celebration. That is the best part - the system kind of works.
I wish my Mom weren't so bitter and pissed off about the election result (and I really wish she wouldn't email me a bunch of times telling me so, since she knows where I stand in all of this and it puts me in an awkward position), but I am feeling much more comfortable and confident about this country today than last week Thank goodness we will have some smart people in charge -- we are gonna need them.
